Avinoam Sapir was a member of Israeli Military Intelligence, as well as the Israeli Police Polygraph. He has a B.A. in both Criminology and Psychology. As well as an M.A. In Criminology. Over the past few years, Avinoam has conducted interview training for various government agencies in Israel, Canada, and the US, to name a few. He started conducting research into linguistic behavior and verbal communication. This is when he decided to start SCAN.

SCAN technique (“Scientific Content Analysis”)

While Avinoam Sapir was president of LSI (Laboratory for Scientific Interrogation) he developed the SCAN method. When it reads between the lines, it extracts information that an average reader doesn't see. SCAN analyses a statement or text by seeing which words were used. This means that there is no need to see the body language of the person who wrote it. It basically detects, whether there is truth or deception in the text of the suspect. It can also identify the author of an anonymous letter. Regardless of the circumstances in which the text was written. It also analyzes a text or statement strictly according to the words that were used. The SCAN technique is now being used in many police departments, as well as other government agencies globally.

Linguistic Archaeology

Linguistic Archaeology is the book Avionam has written where he applies the SCAN technique to a very well-known ancient text from the Book of Genesis in the Bible. His book also explains the rules of SCAN analysis, and shows the reader how SCAN can be used to elucidate any text, whether old or new.
