Episode 202 – Brian Gill and the Lost World of Data Recovery
Our story begins after Brian's brother, Tyler’s college hard drive had failed, and he was left stranded without his valuable data. As they shopped around for data recovery services they found that nearly all of them quoted him $3000+ to do the data recovery. Tyler and Brian decided it was time for a better solution, that was what led to the formation of Gillware in 2004. They put their belief in the principle that data recovery shouldn’t be a prohibitively expensive service into practice.
Brian Gill obtained his B.S. degree in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He is also a software architect, as well as a data recovery expert. Gill is a co-founder of Phoenix Nuclear Labs and he has also served on PNL’s board from inception to when it decided to spin-off SHINE Medical Technologies. He also previously served on the boards for the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps. Brian co-authored the first edition of the WebLogic Server Bible, which was published by John Wiley & Sons in 2002. He was also named one of Madison’s 40 under 40 by In Business, even though he is sadly over 40 now.
