Episode 209 – Chris Hadnagy is a human hacking social engineer

Chris Hadnagy has built himself quite a remarkable life during the 17+ years he has been involved in computers and technology. He is a certified Expert Level graduate of Dr. Paul Ekman’s Micro Expressions courses. This is where he first began making the study of non-verbal behaviors one of his specialties. In addition, Hadnagy also holds certifications as an Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP), as well as a Offensive Security Wireless Professional (OSWP). Chris has also combined what he learned with his years of experience in a new research that focuses on using nonverbal body language and facial expressions to influence other peoples emotions.

The Social-Engineer

His present focus is on the “human” aspects of technology such as social engineering and physical security. Hadnagy has also established the world’s first social engineering penetration testing framework at www.social- engineer.org. Where he provides an invaluable repository of information for all security professionals and enthusiasts. His website has grown into a dynamic web resource that also includes a podcast, as well as a newsletter. These have both become staples for the security industry and they are often referenced by large organizations around the world. Chris also later created the first hands-on social engineering training course and certification. The Advanced Practical Social Engineering course, is often attended by law enforcement, military, as well as private sector professionals.

Chris Hadnagy, is also the founder and CEO of Social-Engineer, LLC. Where his continued efforts in training, education, and awareness have helped to expose social engineering as the top threat to security of organizations today. His goal is to help companies remain secure by educating them on the methods that the “bad guys” are using on their victims. He does this by analyzing, studying and dissecting and performing the very same attacks used by malicious hackers. That same analysis also runs over to his equally popular SEORG Newsletter. Hadnagy is thus better able to help companies stay educated and secure. He has also spent time in providing training in many topics around the globe and he has also had many articles on his work published in local, national and international magazines and journals.

The business of human behavior

Chris specializes in understanding how malicious attackers exploit human communication and as well as trust to obtain access to information and resources through manipulation and deceit. His goal is to secure companies by educating them on the methods used by attackers, identifying vulnerabilities, and mitigating issues through appropriate levels of awareness and increased security. In 2017, Chris Hadnagy founded Innocent Lives Foundation, his organization is focused on preventing crimes against children, including child trafficking, pedophilia and child pornography production.

Hadnagy is also a best-selling author of four books including Social Engineering: The Art of Human Hacking and Unmasking the Social Engineer: The Human Element of Security. As well as Phishing Dark Waters: The Offensive and Defensive Sides of Malicious Emails and Social Engineering: The Science of Human Hacking, 2nd Edition. He is also a sought-after speaker where he has spoken and trained at events such as RSA, Black Hat, and various presentations for corporate and government clients.
