Episode 220 – Simon Lancaster Crafts Rhetoric and Bespoke Speeches to Change the World
Simon Lancaster has made uite a storied career as one of the world’s top speechwriters. He first became a speechwriter in the late 1990's, when he began writing for members of Tony Blair’s Cabinet in the UK. Lancaster has since, written speeches for many of the CEO's of some of the biggest companies in the world that include Unilever, HSBC, Intercontinental Hotels, Rio Tinto, Nokia and Nestle. Simon is also a multiple time TEDx speaker and his ‘Speak Like a Leader' TEDx talk has already had over 3.1 million views. He is also a visiting lecturer at Cambridge University and an Executive Fellow of Henley Business School.
Lancaster is the author of the best-selling books Speechwriting: The Expert Guide as well as Winning Minds: Secrets from the Language of Leadership. His award-winning Speechwriting and Language of Leadership workshops have also made waves across the world. Simon also regularly appears on BBC and Sky News and he writes guest columns for The Guardian and Total Politics.
Lancaster founded Bespoke Speeches in 2007, which is Britain’s only specialist speechwriting agency. His company follows a model that was established in Washington over many years. Bespoke Speeches has since built up their client base to include seven Cabinet Ministers, six FTSE CEOs, six members of the Sunday Times Rich List. As well as a clutch of rock stars, TV presenters and Olympic Gold medalists. Lancaster has written hundreds of major speeches for prestigious events that include the MacTaggart Lecture, Lord Mayor’s Dinners, awards ceremonies, party conferences, leadership hustings, corporate launches, annual reports and trade fairs.
