Episode 194 – The Punk Rock MBA Finn McKenty
Finn McKenty is an American marketing strategist, music commentator, writer and graphic designer. He currently runs the YouTube channel The Punk Rock MBA and he is also the director of marketing at the online education platform URM Academy. Finn was also previously the executive producer at CreativeLive's “Music & Audio” channel.
After graduating from the University of Cincinnati, McKenty also did strategic design at a product development consulting firm. He worked for Procter & Gamble on several products, which also included Swiffer and Febreze. He has also created videos for Quiksilver, DC Shoes, as well as sports publication Flo. Then around 2009, he went on to work with Abercrombie & Fitch where he worked in product design. At some point he also supervised their factories in Asia, and then continued to work as their marketing production coordinator for several more years.
The Punk Rock MBA
In July 2018, Finn began uploading YouTube videos to his channel. On his channel he primarily analyzes the music industry, with a special focus on rock and the heavy metal sub-genres. Billboard Magazine also praised Finn's channel in one of their articles for his YouTube channel's “deep research and endearing DIY production”. At the time of this Unstructured interview, The Punk Rock MBA had over 179.000 subscribers on YouTube.
